Amber Piece
03:45
|
|||
come on now, take my hand
I'll take you round the riverbend
where the sun never sets and the moon reigns high
courtship of another kind
who do you think you are/ wayward well wisher
I'm the light from a dead star/ do you stray very far?
do you see what's left of me/ I don't believe in destiny
we're mutual, inaccessibly
insects in one amber piece
what hasn't happened, you want to know why, oh why
you gave it so many true, ultimately useless tries, most tries
life seems to finally kick in, only to dim and die, most die
yet neither you nor I
come on now, once again...

Ice Pond
03:55
|
|||
found an ice pond and broke in
I was looking for something
wound up half froze and bloated
only dredged out come spring
hauled myself out and spoke through stagnant water
again, I said
so soon I fall sick again
said it alone because everyone knows
it's necessary for the ill to stay away
but go on and ignore it, I might
it's happened before, and I really want to see you tonight
now a distant situation
told you it's not contagious
distracted by the shadow cast of your hand to your lips
wonder if you could see of this
you avert your gaze, I drift away
indoors between dry walls
red room's floor that recalls
of a mercury ocean
sudden nausea's return
again, I said
...
but try to ignore it, if I look a fright
it does happen so often, and I wanted to see you tonight

Idle Times

time rusting away, joy running away
sliding down through water, running down or squandered
your idle times passed you by
you missed your chance, it has lapsed...

I clear where I've sought to lie, as if searching for water by the bedside
reaching, slow sweeping with my fingertips

Old June
02:51
|
|||
a very dark afternoon, deep green & dim
like an old june
one doesn't quite walk so much as swim
in the sweet humidity and simmered heat
it was like the roses were boiled
lilies-of-the-valley melting
all dripping clear oil
yet lavender dries to moulting
collects on my veil
gets so faded when sunlight's curtailed
by these trees' occulting
and the season's tilting
I hear breathing lilting
there's some girl in the garden
exhaling through air of alcoholic perfume
look how this hyacinth's uncommonly pale
but astilbe's gone too far
the dew is wet and stale
rotting not wilting
but hydrangea go frail
and broken frame the trail
honeysuckle's nectar sticking
I lay down on the soil and scrape out my nails
daisy chains have failed, too soft they've all been splitting

In Stead
05:39
|
|||
onset
latent
reflection
blatant
some psychic reverie, delayed memory
I had bought you a smokey pearl choker
I had thought your shoulder would be even colder
so I brought you a stole sewn with silver thread...
strewn about
go through
it's not untrue
another turn of the screw
trade your blessings for
the dark mirror ceiling below
where I lie in repose on my waterbed
